Family-Friendly Deck, Patio & Pool Ideas

Welcome to the Summer Outdoor Spaces Blog Hop hosted by AnnMarie & Anne from Simply2Moms! If you’re visiting from Ahna at Hammers n Hugs, or if you just happened to stop by, I’m so glad you’re here!

In today’s post I’m sharing our summer exterior, including our deck, patio and pool areas. With two young children at home (and another on the way), our goal is to create a family-friendly space that is safe, comfortable and fun for all.

The Deck

Our deck is our family hub. We relax, play, eat and entertain out here and I wouldn’t have it another way. The awning is by Sunsetter and was one of the best investments we’ve made. It keeps the space cool and protects the kids from the bright sun.

Exterior Dining

In the summer the deck serves as the our second dining room and most days we eat two or even three meals out here. The table set was purchased on Overstock.com and the rug is from Boutiquerugs.com

Play Areas

When the boys aren’t on the deck or in the pool you can usually find them by the swing set or in the sandbox. For play dates we also love to set up the jump house, water table and smaller pool for some extra fun in the sun.

Pool Areas

Last year we also added a family pool to the mix and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more. We have the Intex Prism 16x8x3.5 and it’s the perfect size for a young family. We also created a makeshift patio space underneath the deck as a shady space to watch the boys swim.

Exterior Storage

With endless toys, towels and pool accessories, exterior storage is key. For our deck and patio areas we use Suncast storage boxes from Wayfair to keep everything organized. We also added fence hooks for towels, the skimmer and vacuum.
